24 Hours in Monte Carlo, Monaco: A Taste of Luxury and Adventure

Updated: Oct 29, 2023

If you've ever dreamed of living the high life, even for just a day, Monte Carlo, Monaco, is the place to be. With its glamorous casinos, upscale restaurants, and breathtaking views, this tiny principality packs a punch in the world of luxury. We hopped on a quick train from Nice, France, and embarked on an unforgettable 24-hour adventure that felt straight out of a James Bond movie.

Getting There: Train Rides and Passport Checks

First things first, getting to Monaco from Nice is a breeze. A short train ride that takes about 20 minutes, and you're transported to a world of elegance and opulence. Just remember to carry your passport, especially if you plan on trying your luck at the iconic Casino de Monte Carlo. This identification is a requirement for any casino in Monaco and France.

Dress to Impress: Monaco's Style Code

Gentlemen, here's a heads-up. After 7 PM, if you want to dine at the restaurants, try your luck at the casino, or enjoy the nightlife, you'll need to wear pants and dress shoes. Women often wear evening gowns to the casino and restaurants. Monaco takes its style seriously, and you wouldn't want to miss out on these experiences because of a dress code hiccup.

Transportation Tips: Uber Ban and More

Uber is a no-go in Monaco, but don't worry. There are taxi stands open 24/7 at Avenue de Monte Carlo and the railway station. Alternatively, you can contact Taxi Monaco Prestige at +377 9315 0101.

For a more unique and scenic ride, check out the water taxi in the port area. For just 2 euros per person, it shuttles you across the marina every 15 minutes, saving you a 15-20 minute walk around the harbor.

And here's a pro tip: If you're staying in the port area, use the lower-level section of the train station to avoid the hassle of climbing up the steps and ramps to the city center.

Must-Dos: Markets, Casinos, and Dining Delights

Start your day with a visit to La Condamine Markets, located at La Condamine and Avenue Saint-Charles, a short walk from the marina. You'll find regional farmer's market specialties, a playground, and a few coffee shops.

Next up, the iconic Casino de Monte Carlo awaits. Test your luck or simply soak in the glamorous atmosphere. The Casino is truly a beautiful sight to see with gilded rooms and live music. There are two restaurants in the Casino that both open at 7PM. Nearby, indulge in some luxury shopping and take in the view of the mega yachts sitting in the harbor, because, well, you're in Monaco!

As evening approaches, head to Rue du Portier for a plethora of restaurants and bars. We personally dined at Trinity Bar and had the best short ribs and macaroni and cheese.

Although we didn't have time to explore the Prince's Palace of Monaco or the Japanese Garden of Monaco, our Airbnb host insisted that these are must-visit spots if you're not too busy trying to strike it rich at the casino.

Our whirlwind 24 hours in Monte Carlo was a taste of the high life and adventure in the lap of luxury. If you're up for a quick escape from Nice and want to sprinkle some elegance into your travels, Monaco is your playground. So, when's your next visit?
